This page is meant to help you, the student, in selecting your solo recital material. For a group recital, the student should select 2-3 pieces. For a solo recital, the student should select approximately 10-15 pieces or at least 20 minutes worth of music.

Michelson Books

  • Easy Classic Guitar Solos for Children - All pieces are acceptable
  • Young Beginner's First Repertoire for Classic Guitar - All pieces are acceptable
  • New Dimensions in Classical Guitar for Children - All are acceptable accompanied. Students should sing and play Level 1 pieces (1st time guitar, 2nd time guitar and voice). Students are encouraged sing and play other pieces as well. Capos are acceptable and encouraged to pitch the songs in the proper singing range (usually frets 3-5).

RCM Books

In the Classical Guitar Repertoire and Etude books, repertoire pieces are acceptable. Etudes will be reviewed on a case by case basis.

Suzuki Books

All pieces are acceptable. However, in mixed recitals with non-Suzuki guitarists, avoid the following:

  • Twinkle Variations (play theme only)
  • Perpetual Motion - Suzuki
  • With Steady Hands - Longay
  • Allegro - Suzuki (bk 2)

Additionally:

  • Are You Sleeping Brother John? (bk1) If unaccompanied or not played asĀ  a round, sequence after Twinkle (theme) in the program. Student should begin with 2 bars exactly the same as the final 2 bars and play from m. 11 to the end once.
  • Waltz in Em - Calatayud (bk. 2) perform unaccompanied.
